Concrete plugs installed to prevent flooding of New York’s PATH tunnels under the destroyed World Trade Centre (WTC) are to be moved in a bid to accelerate vital repairs on the line’s tunnels and station. The plugs were originally placed to prevent water from the Hudson River leaking into the system following extensive damage to a slurry wall that protected the WTC tunnels and station from flooding. The seals will now be moved to the Manhattan side of the Hudson to allow contractors earlier access to more of the tracks already affected by water ingress.
