For the second time in a week, robbers in Paris have tunnelled into the vault of a high street bank. According to local media, Police believe the robber used the sewerage network to enter the BNP Paribas bank from a metro station, but fled empty handed.
It is the latest in a run of bank raids in the city.
A week ago, thieves raided dozens of safety deposit boxes at a branch of Credit Lyonnais after tunnelling into the vault.
The success of the Credit Lyonnais raid has spurred on the robbers. Once again the gang dug a tunnel from the sewerage system, to gain access to the basement of the bank in the 13th district near the Tolbiac underground station.
But on this occasion the robbers set off an alarm after breaking through into the vault at 4.00am local time. The robbers escaped the police empty handed.
