The project is a cost-plus contract with an estimated value of SKr430m (£31.78m) excluding VAT.

The works cover approximately 500m between Rosenlundsplatsen and the Harbour Canal and consists of a double-track tunnel and two service tunnels in rock. In this subproject, Västlänken will pass several underground structures such as the Götatunnel, garages, and shelters.

Västlänken, or the West Link, is an 8km-long double track railway, including a 6km rail tunnel, under the city of Gothenburg. It will connect commuter rail services to existing routes and include three new underground stations at Gothenburg Central Station, Haga and Korsvägen.

The project is divided into five packages – Olskroken, Centralen, Kvarnberget, Haga and Korsvägen – based on a geographical division of the route. In addition, there will be an overall contract for the rail, electronics, signalling system and telecommunications.

The West Link Project is included in the national plan for the Swedish Transport System 2014-2025, which the government adopted in 2014.
