Tunnel Euralpin Lyon Turin project (TELT) – the great challenge through the Alps

Speakers:

Emmanuel Humbert – Director of the French Construction Division, TELT

Adrian Fontana – Head of Construction Management, PINI GROUP

Benjamin Lecomte – Technical Director, VINCI CONSTRUCTION GRANDS PROJETS

Lyon in France and Turin in Italy are two major cities when it comes to European exchanges and economy. Currently, merchandises and goods are mainly carried via trucks between these two locations. The TELT project is aimed to reduce the traffic on the existing highway by allowing a fast rail connection crossing the Alps relief with a 57,5 km long twin tube tunnel (45 km in France & 12,5 km in Italy). The construction of this tunnel is ongoing since October 2021 and will require the use of 7 tunnel boring machines to excavate the work sections, in addition of traditional methods such as explosives.  This project is very challenging due to various aspects: the depth, the geology, the location, the length…our 3 speakers are going to introduce you with the day-to-day engineering themes encountered to achieve this gigantic milestone and deliver the project; meeting the greatest standards of the construction field.
