The first of two TBMs that will build the south section of Bucharest’s Metro Line 6 has been launched.
TBM Saint Mary and her sister TBM Saint Anne will excavate the 6.6km-long tunnels between Tokyo and 1 Mai stations. There will be six stations along the south section.
The new 14.2km-long Metro 6 Line will connect 1 Mai station with Henri Coanda – Otopeni International Airport and include 12 stations.
TBM Saint Mary has a 6.6m diameter, is 97m long, and weighs approximately 600 tonnes. The average advance will be 1.5m per hour, during which around about 60m3 of material will be excavated.
