The assignment coincides with the invitation for contractors to prequalify by 21 May for the project’s three tunnelling contracts that together total 21.5km. A separate contract will be awarded for inverted siphon works.

The three contracts involve:

  • 5,802m Xiaopingzi tunnel, 1,225m Maidichong tunnel and pipeline works
  • 4,921m Yanmeidi tunnel, 7,434m Fangergou tunnel and pipeline works.
  • All the tunnels will be built using drill and blast techniques and lined with cast in situ concrete. Completion is by mid-2005.

The prequalification is being handled by the Beijing-based China National Metals and Minerals Import & Export Corporation and the Minmetals International Tendering Company which hopes to invite tenders in August.

A set of prequalification documents for each contract costs US$480 and is available via email: wangdl@minmetals.com or zhaozhi@minmetals.com
