As part of the expansion of overseas consultancy services, Hong Kong’s Mass Transit Railway Corporation (MTRC) is advising Taiwan’s Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation (KRTC) on plans to build the Kaohsiung metro.

The metro concession was awarded last year to a consortium led by China Steel. Work involves the construction of two lines totalling 43km built mostly in tunnel, 38 stations and three depots.

MTRC has already assisted the Kaohsiung transit corporation on the design of metro systems including communications and SCADA.

It is also expected to advise KRTC on electrical and mechanical contracts during the design and tendering phase.

MTRC is also providing advice on the construction and operation of the Blue Line in Bangkok, Thailand.

Jonathan Dring, MTRC consultancy services manager, said the rail corporation’s expansion in Taiwan, Thailand and the Guangzhou metro in southern China, is part of an aggressive business plan to expand overseas.
