Work has started on interconnecting galleries between the Somport road and rail tunnel in France. The Sotrabas/Razel joint venture is constructing three galleries, 350m, 280m and 125m by drill and blast at a cost of some $6M. The galleries will allow emergency services to get closer to accidents.
