Lovat mts, the microtunnelling offshoot of Canadian TBM manufacturer Lovat, has sold its first microtunnelling machine.

The ‘mts 1000’ slurry removal machine will bore the 557m long Burlawn Service Area Sanitary Sewer Relay and Microtunnel, Brookfield, Wisconsin. Local contractor, Super Excavator will use the machine to install a .8m diameter reinforced concrete pipe primary lining. The tunnel will be bored at depths of 6-15m through variable geology including silty clay, a trace to little sand, trace gravel (very stiff to hard) and some silt seams. The machine was scheduled for delivery from the Valluhn plant in Germany as T&TI went to press.

The contract was awarded in May this year by the client, The City of Brookfield.

The mts 1000 is the second Lovat used by the contractor. In May Super Excavator completed the 1.5km long Becher Street Tunnel Project in Milwaukee in ten months using a Lovat RMP 129SE Series 9600.
