Taylor Woodrow entered a 90 day consultation period to ascertain the extent of proposed job cuts that could effect up to 500 staff members. The consultation period is applicable by law due to the large numbers of employees that could be affected.
A spokesman for Taylor Woodrow told T&T International that Taylor Woodrow Construction, which includes the tunnelling division based in Southall, London, is likely to bear the brunt of the cuts, probably in the form of voluntary redundancies.
The company has been attempting to restructure after chief executive Keith Egerton’s decision to withdraw from high-risk, low-return civils work.
The news comes as another blow to the already diminished UK tunnelling industry following the recent closure of TBM manufacturer Kvaerner Markham.
