UK construction company AMEC plc and Canadian company AGRA Inc. have merged to create an international group capable of providing design services, applied technology and project delivery to global engineering, construction and environmental industries.
The combined revenue for the two companies is estimated for continuing operations at US$6bn. The merger is being achieved through a cash and share offer by an AMEC Group company, which values AGRA at US$353m.
The move follows the growing trend of smaller contractors joining forces to become part of a global ‘super league’. AMEC chief executive Peter Mason, said, "This merger will advance dramatically the strategic objectives of our two groups. These are remarkably aligned and, with similar management structures, I look forward to a successful integration.
" We both gain critical new advantages of scale and global reach, together with complementary services and technologies."
According to US construction publication ENR, the merger places the firm in the top three ranking international engineering design firms, behind Fluor Daniel Inc and Bechtel Group Inc.
