Five groups have been shortlisted to bid for the US$22M construction of the Gocek road tunnel in the Fethiye-Dalaman region of Turkey. The five are: Garanti Koza Balfour Beatty; Nurol Gtnsaat; Yuksel Gtnsaat-Guris Gtnsaat; Limak Gtnsaat; and Mak-Yol Gtnsaat-Altinok Muhendislik.

The scheme, planned by TCK (the State Highways Administration), will be awarded under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) concession lasting between 10 and 15 years. The 960m long twin tube Gocek tunnel will be part of a 4.5km long highway, which will replace an existing 7.2km route between Mugla and Antalya.

The contractors held meetings with the highways administration in August to clarify design and technical specifications and financial issues. As a result, the admini-stration hoped to formerly invite tenders with contractors given up to two and a half months to prepare their bids.

They are expected to include the preferred con-cession period, construction timescale which must not exceed three years, the total cost of their investment and their proposed toll per vehicle.

The contractors can either operate the tunnel or appoint the highways administration as the tunnel operations manager.
