Temporary repairs have been carried out on the 285m long Meir Tunnel, built by Amey Construction, on the A50 in the UK after a 4m x 2m steel lining panel fell on to the carriageway. The highways agency told the UK construction press that the lining panels had become loose because of problems with the restraining bolts, which required replacing or tightening. The tunnel was closed while 235 panels were secured with L shaped straps. Responsibility will be allocated after the completion of investigations.
