Affholder is awarded the Grand and Bates Relief Phase II Stormwater Tunnel contract by the City’s Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) to alleviate flooding during major rain events in south St. Louis. The $34.5 million, 24-month contract involves 2km (6,400ft) of 2750mm (108in) i.d. tunnel, and eight drop shafts. The job will start west of Grand Avenue and run east beneath Bates Avenue to an outfall to the Mississippi River.
