SBS Transit is set to open the US$1.7bn North-East metro line by April next year. Construction of the 20km tunnelled link, which has taken about six years to build, has been overseen by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) which has awarded SBS a concession to operate the new line. The railway will run from the World Trade Centre to Punggol and includes 14 new stations and the expansion of two additional stations. A LTA spokesman said civil works have already been finished, while the installation of electrical and mechanical services is substantially completed.
