Singapore’s US$1.02bn, 12km long Kallang/Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) project got under way last month, which includes 9km of tunnels – the largest ever to be undertaken in the city. The tunnelling contractors on the project are SembCorp Engineers and Constructors, SembCorp/ Daewoo JV, Samsung, and Taisei. The contracts include a combination of cut and cover tunnels and twin-bore tunnels. Due to be completed in 2007, the KPE will link the East Coast Parkway in the south to the Tampines Expressway in the north-east.
