The secretariat of the International Tunnelling Association (ITA) has moved to a full-time central administration centre in Lausanne, Switzerland, housed within the Rock and Soil Mechanics division of the Civil Engineering school of the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL).

The new headquarters are staffed by a full-time secretary general and two full-time assistants paid for by the ITA. With the offices and overheads provided free of charge by the EPFL, the offer to host the ITA is seen as mutual benefit for the two organisations.

“ITA will have access to the expertise available in other relevant departments of the school,’ Prof. Laurent Vulliet, EPFL’s Dean of the civil engineering department explained. “For the EPFL, we will have access to the vast operating stage of the global ITA network, offering a vehicle through which to promote our services and feed our research efforts.”

The ITA’s new contact details are: ITA Secretariat/Secrétariat de l’AITES, c/o EPFL, Bât GC CH 1015 Lausanne, Switzerland; tel +41 21 693 23 10; fax +41 21 693 41 53, email secretariat@ita-aites.org; web site www.ita-aites.org.

The ITA consists of 52 national societies and over 300 members.
