Orders received by Swedish contractor, NCC International Projects, rose during 2002 to US$291.2M. The orders include further expansion of the Singapore subway system, and a railway tunnel in Trollhättan, Norway. NCC Construction Sweden decreased to US$1.87bn, partly due to weaker market conditions, and the introduction of a more selective project-tendering policy. Earnings rose in the fourth quarter, as a result of lower overheads and a higher margin on construction projects. Demand in other European markets also declined.
