An overrun tunnel for Hong Kong’s Mass Transit Railway Corporation‘s airport railway, and a 1km dual three-lane road tunnel will be built as part of a US$487M contract awarded to a group led by Australia’s Leighton Asia.

The team, which also includes China State Construction Engineering and Van Oord ACZ, will carry out the third phase of a reclamation scheme in Hong Kong’s central business district.

The contract, awarded by the Territory Development Department, involves the creation of about 18 hectares of land by infilling part of Victoria Harbour. The rail overrun and road tunnels form part of the infrastructure work.
