Norwegian contractor, Viedekke, has just started construction on a 32m2, 400m long access tunnel, which will join the middle of the 10.5km long Lierås rail tunnel – the most heavily trafficked tunnel in Norway. Viedekke was awarded the US$6M contract by the Norwegian National Rail Administration. The tunnel will provide ventilation and emergency exits. Viedekke is using Atlas Copco boomers to construct the tunnel, which should be completed by the end of August 2003.
