The Spanish Government has announced that the consortium TP Ferro, comprising of French firm Eiffage, together with the Spanish groups ACS and Dragados, have won a contract to extend and operate a high-speed railway connecting France and Spain. The 44.4km route features an 8.3km tunnel through the Pyrenees. A spokesman for the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain told T&TI the scheme was essential for the future of Spain, giving the country land access to the whole of Europe via high-speed railway. With the contract due to be signed imminently, the 60 month construction programme is expected to start Q1 this year.
