A request for qualification (RFQ) notice has been modified for a project incorporating a 610m twin-bore hard rock tunnel in Maunabo, Puerto Rico.
The Department of Transportation and Public works (DTPW) and the Puerto Rico Highway and Transportation Authority (PRHTA) amended the previous RFQ from a design/build for the tunnel and a bid/build for the remainder of the scheme, which includes seven bridges and a section of road, to bid/build for the entire scheme.
Overall construction costs are estimated at US$50M. A meeting with contractors to discuss the project scope was planned for 20 January and contractors had until 6 February to submit Qualification Statements. It is expected that results of the evaluation will notified by the PRHTA by 16 February.
