Construction of a 36km tunnel, said to be the longest water transfer tunnel in the Middle East, has started according to a statement made by Shahriyar Rahmani, deputy director of Research and Development Affairs for the Tehran Regional Water Company. The Qom Rud project consists of a total of 48.8km of tunnels, between 1.6km and 36km in length, various dams and 110km of pipeline. The scheme will transfer water from the Dez river throughout the Markazi province from a 205Mm3 reservoir.
