The Indian press has described a fire that broke out in a Kolkata subway, with thankfully no casualties being reported.

The fire broke out in an abandoned homeopathy shop on Sunday 29 August at approximately 9.45am in the subway leading to Howrah Railway Station. Bystanders saw smoke pouring out of the entrance to the subway and raised the alarm. As it was a Sunday, the subway was not crowded.

Four fire tenders were dispatched to fight the fire and the subway was opened again by the evening although some reports suggested the flames had caused damage to the structure.
