The Chinese news agency, Xinhuanet, reported on 2 September that two workers were killed in a tunnel collapse in Yinchuan.
The workers and their colleagues were installing a sewer pipe in a 5m deep tunnel on Wednesday 1 September, when at 5pm the tunnel collapsed on them. It is unclear how many workers were trapped, but reports said that it took one hour to free the workers. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to hospital where he later died.
The workers were said to have been inspecting the quality of the pipelaying work in the tunnel at the time of the incident. Xinhuanet said that two foremen had been taken away by police for questioning.
