Contractors have until 5 October 2004 to register interest in carrying out test boring work in Germany for the largest environmental engineering project in the EU, the Emscher Sewer. This 51km long sewer from Dortmund to Dinslaken will be built at depths between 10m and 40m below the surface. The sewer is planned to be built from 2006 to 2014 and the borings are crucial for finalising designs. The first campaign of boring works took place in 2003, with 220 borings totalling 7,800m. From October 2004 to May 2006, 1,350 bores of 49,000m are planned. The test bores that are currently being called for are deep boring for pumping stations and consist of five bores at up to 90m depths planned for November.
