Tunnellers have finally holed through on Taiwan’s Hsuehshan (Snow Mountain) tunnel after 13 years of construction and numerous collapses and floodings. Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian blasted open the final section of the 12.9km tunnel amid a shower of confetti and cheering workers. The link, part of the 55km Taipei-Ilan expressway in northern Taiwan, is claimed to be the world’s fifth longest road tunnel.
