A 25km long water supply tunnel is being proposed as part of a US$600M transport scheme to fill in Bangkok’s Khlong Prapa, the main canal supplying water to the city. The tunnel, which would replace the canal, would run from a reservoir in Sarm Lair, Pathum Thai district to a water treatment plant at Rama VI in Sam Sen, Bangkok. A highway and mass transit line would be built along the route of the canal. Construction could start in 2006 with a scheduled finish date in 2010.
