Dutch company Imtech NV has been awarded a contract by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) for the development of a traffic management system for the new Route 8 motorway. Worth US$36.5M the contract was awarded to Imtech Infra in conjunction with joint venture partners Delcan from Canada and GEC Services from Hong Kong. The Route 8 motorway will stretch 14km, connecting Sha Tin and Lantau Island. It features three tunnels with a collective length of 4.3km. The traffic control and surveillance system will use cameras, information panels for drivers, a new control centre and a communications network along the route.
