An Anglo-Norwegian JV between Seacore Ltd. and Eidesvik Subsea AS aims to further plans for the proposed fixed link between Spain and Morocco (T&TI, January 2004, p4) by carrying out exploration drilling of the seabed along the possible route of the 38.5km long tunnel. The JV was awarded the contract after an open tender by Spanish and Moroccan authorities.

Plans call for a tunnel under the Straits of Gibraltar, from a portal at Punta Paloma on the Spanish side, 40km west of Gibraltar, to a Moroccan portal at Punta Malabata, east of Tangiers. Roughly 27km of the tunnel would run under the straits at a depth of 300m.
