On 2 May, the Venaus Societa Consortile, a JV between CMC di Ravenna and Strabag, awarded the Robbins company a contract to supply a 6.3m diameter hard rock TBM and back-up system for the Venaus project in Italy, part of the Lyon-Turin high speed rail link.
The 7km long Venaus tunnel is the fourth to start construction on the Lyon-Turin scheme. Robbins will supply an open TBM for the project that has the capacity to overbore the tunnel diameter by 200mm.
Equipment supplied for the first working zone behind the head will include two roof drill positioners, an erector system for both 400mm and 1400mm wide panels, a wire mesh placement system and a probe drill positioner system giving 360? coverage.
A second working zone farther back will be equipped for shotcreting, roof drilling and core drilling. A pre-cast invert segment handling system is also included.
