In Spain, a Lovat TBM being used by UTE Metro de Sevilla, a JV of Dragados, Sacyr and Cavosa, has successfully carried out the Guadalquivir River crossing one week ahead of its planned schedule.

Moving at double the planned rate, the 6.1m diameter mixed face EPB machine completed the crossing in just seven days. The 180m long river crossing had a maximum of 20m of cover of the riverbed to the tunnel invert.

The work to build Linea 1 Interurbana for the Seville metro is being carried out on behalf of Consejeria de Obras Publicas y Transportes Direccion General de Transportes. Currently boring through gravel and sandy gravel, Lovat said in October that the TBM had a further 1,550m of drive left to complete the line.
