Two workers are said to have been killed and another injured when a tunnel under construction in Belgrade, Serbia, collapsed in late November. The accident occurred in Resnik, which is on the outskirts of the capital.

According to reports, one of the victims was alive when pulled from the rubble, but died soon after in hospital.  The second victim was found dead hours after the accident occurred.

The tunnel is part of a new ring road that aims to ease traffic congestion in Belgrade.  Construction of the Belgrade ring road is one of a number of key state infrastructure projects. The National Investment Plan being implemented across Serbia is providing much of the funding.

The Belgrade Bypass project involves the construction of 69km in total of bypass roads to the west and south of the Serbian capital.  When finished it will comprise of 9.7km of Section A from Batajnica to Dobanovci, 37km of Section B from Dobanovci to Bubanj Potok, and the 22km long Section C from Bubanj Potok, to Vinca and then to Starcevo.
