Italian firm CMC has awarded a supply contract to Italy-based Euroform to supply the segment moulds and carousel for tunnelling works on the Theun Hinboun hydro power project in Lao PDR.

Euroform, which is a subsidiary of Herrenknecht, is to supply four sets of moulds with wheels, including the pneumatic vibrators set, plus one compete carousel for segment production.

The equipment is to be delivered from Euroform’s plant in Gessate, Milan, to the construction site by June.

Production is planned to be able to make four-to-five segment per hour from the carousel.

The tunnel lining has been designed with six, 280mm thick segments to form 7.46m o.d. rings of 1.6m length. The invert will include housing for back-up rail assembly. Assembly is bolts between segments and bi-block to join rings.

CMC is undertaking the civils works for the Theun Hinboun expansion project, and tunnelling work was subcontracted to a subsidiary of Vietnamese construction group Cavico. The expansion project is being developed by Theun Hinbound Power Co, a JV of Electricte du Laos, GMS Power of Thailand and Norwegian utility Statkraft.
