People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti last week spoke in favour of fast-tracking a tunnel project. The alignment would run across Zoji La, a mountain pass in Jammu and Kashmir, India.
Mufti said the tunnel would “unshackle district Kargil from physical and economic constraints.” And added that political apathy had held back the region, which she identified as having great potential.
The PDP has tried to push its connectivity plan for the area’s three regions: Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir. Mufti spoke to a delegation from Kargil led by Muhammad Ishaq Waaizi, a religious scholar from Barsoo and Najjaf Ali, a retired police officer from Kaksar.
