The contract was awarded to a joint venture of E.E. Cruz and Company and Tully Construction Company for the station finishes, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, ancillary buildings and entrances for the station.

The Second Avenue subway is extending along the Q Line northward to 96th Street from Midtown Manhattan. New stations are being added along Second Avenue at 72nd Street, 86th Street, and 96th Street.

"The award of this contract brings us closer to making the Second Avenue subway a reality for our customers," said Michael Horodniceanu, the president of MTA Capital Construction.

The extended subway line is scheduled to open December 2016. There are two more contracts remaining to be awarded on the project.
