The tunnel is one of five options for the portion of the LRT alignment transitioning from the downtown core, under the river. Estimated at CAD 1.95bn (USD 1.48bn), it’s the most expensive option, and contingent on funding from the Alberta Province.
All five options evaluated in the downtown core would require some length of underground tunnel in order to connect with the existing Red and Blue LRT lines.
The Green Line will add approximately 40km to the 59km system.
