Amalgamated Construction Co. Ltd, UK civil engineer and mining contractor, has commissioned a Dosco boom header shield complete with segment erector and full back-up for construction of the Birches Head Combined Sewer Storage tunnel in Stoke-on-Trent. Tunnelling involves construction through Coal Measures of a 2.1m diameter, 1.1km long bolted concrete segmental tunnel to divert storm flows from an existing sewer. The remainder of the contract works includes shafts, box culverts, an outfall structure, river crossings, pipejacking and conventional sewer installation in open cut.
