The ongoing controversy over cost escalation continues on Boston’s troubled central artery project. Accountancy firm Deloitte & Touche has recently reviewed the project and has estimated that costs could rise by up $700m to $12.2bn. The principle funder to the project, the Federal Highway Administration has told project client, Massuchusetts Turnpike Authority that it has until October 1st to show how it intends to finance the latest increases. The FHA has stated that it will not fund the project past the 1997 set figure of $9.4bn, and any subsequent overruns would have to be funded by by the MTA.
