Austdac is one of Australia’s largest suppliers of conveyor communication and signalling systems for tunnelling projects. “The Austdac tunnelling system uses only a single cable and eliminates the need for a wire-rope pullwire, which removes the need to have a tensioned pull-wire switch, therefore reducing spurious tripping of the switches,” says the company.

It is designed for non-hazardous areas, but includes benefits such as communications, safety, reliability, easy installation and fault finding, and remains price competitive. “It has proven to be an effective tool to increase productivity and reduce downtime,” adds Austdac.

The system utilises modern technology and provides a fully monitored prestart audio/visual alarm, plus emergency stop over a long distance. Switch lock-out is indicated accurately and there is full two-way voice communication between stations along the conveyor using IP68 microphones.

Additional features include fault detection, volume detection, LCD backlit displays, and back-up batteries for every amplifier. Each amplifier can indicate any individual faults for line current, battery voltage, PSDA and speaker. The cable can also carry other analogue and digital signals such as for temperature monitoring and motor currents. Full PLC interfacing provides conveyor logic control.
