Written by Dr Bhawani Singh and Dr RK Goel, this book is presented in two sections, looking at landslides and tunnelling separately. It also complements the authors’ earlier studies – Rock Mass Classification: A Practical Approach in Civil Engineering, published by Elsevier.

Software for Engineering Control of Landslide and Tunnelling Hazards offers tried and tested software packages as solutions to landslides in highly seismic hilly areas, and tunnels in complex geological formations.

The emphasis is placed on the design of remedial measures, rather than rigorous analysis, offering practical knowledge of tunnelling hazards. There are six packages on tunnels along with source programmes, user manuals and solved examples.

The tunnelling packages are as follows: an introduction to software packages on underground openings in rock mass; rock mass quality (Q)-system; tunnelling hazards; deformability, strength and in situ stresses; underground wedge analysis; support pressure in squeezing ground condition; emperical design of support system for underground opening in rock mass; concrete lining in pressure tunnels; a two-dimensional boundary element method; subsidence due to mining; and web sites in rock engineering.

Software for Engineering Control of Landslide and Tunnelling Hazards is published by A A Balkema Publishers, in the Netherlands, and priced at US$109; tel: +31 252 435111; fax: +31 252 435447
