A database known as Engineering Consultancy Benchmark has been launched by Policy Publications to allow consulting engineers to investigate why they have lost out on important bids. The consultancy is able to see how it performs against the average for other consultancies and can also evaluate its performance against the most successful firms in the bidding process. To avail itself of the service, the consultancy must fill in a questionnaire which is fed into the database; the results are printed out and presented in a 25 page report, which is full of advice.
