On 19 September, the consulting engineer Arcadis announced it had been selected as advisor for the Zuidas-Dok (Southern Axis Dock) project in Amsterdam.

The scheme aims to consolidate 1.2km of road, rail, subway and tram infrastructure below ground into a single terminal to optimise connectivity between public transportation. The largest integrated property and infrastructure development in the Netherlands, it has been championed by the Dutch government and the city of Amsterdam who wish to redevelop more than one million square metres of commercial land with offices, stores, leisure facilities and housing.

T&TI was told that Arcadis would be working to determine the final construction methods for the underground works and highrise buildings associated with the development over the next six to twelve months.

Based on this and other ancillary works, a business case will be drafted that should lead to the establishment of a company. Shares in the company will be issued, some to the government and some to the private sector, following which the company will take steps to progress the scheme.
