80% of the 17.6km long, two line extension on the Athens Metro in Greece has been handed over for trial rail tests, bringing to a close almost a decade of troubled construction. The $2.2bn north-south and east-west lines were built using two 9.5m diameter TBMs. Contractors from the Olympic Metro Athens JV had to contend with poor ground conditions and wrangles over archaeological finds.
