The newspaper also reported that there are plans to complete the construction of a tunnel from Hazi Aslanov station to the suburb of Yeni Guneshli in 2016.

The length of Baku Metro lines is 34.6km, it has two lines and 23 stations. In future the number of subway lines is planned to be increased to five, the overall length up to 119km and the number of stations up to 76.

In 2011, the chief executive of the Baku Metro, Taghi Ahmadov, announced plans to construct 70 new stations by 2040. These will serve the new bus complex as well as Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
