On 10 August a fire in the Berlin subway resulted in three people being injured, but the actions of train driver in escorting 30 passengers to an emergency exit are said to have averted a major disaster.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but it took 300 firefighters to extinguish the blaze that left a carriage gutted and has led to the closure of several rail lines in the city.
