Around 2.5Mt of rock, sands, clays and silt will be excavated to construct the five Metro Tunnel stations, with the same amount will be removed during works to dig the twin 9km, 7m od tunnels.

The project has also made use of 12 ‘engineering cadets’, many of which were trained at the MetroHub, sited near one of the stations. Engineering cadets have already worked more than 135,000 hours on the Metro Tunnel, while almost 100 extra tertiary students studying a range of disciplines have worked on the project as part of industry-based learning opportunities.
