The Australian state of Queensland looks set to give the go ahead for the US$670M first stage of a US$1.4bn road tunnel under Brisbane next month.

The 5km long twin bore tunnel forms an integral part of a grand US$11bn plan to beat traffic congestion in the city over the next 15 years. “I am very confident it will get the go-ahead from the state government and we can proceed on that basis,” Brisbane’s Lord Mayor, Tim Quinn, was quoted as saying last month.
