The British Tunnelling Society (BTS) has announced that its Tunnel Design & Construction Course 2025 will take place from Monday, 30 June to Friday, 4 July 2025, at the University of Warwick, Coventry. The course is recognised for its high technical standards and is delivered by industry experts.

Designed to cover key aspects of underground project development, the course includes worked examples and workshop sessions to enhance interaction between delegates and speakers. It is aimed at professionals involved in tunnelling, including engineers, project clients, tunnel operators, and members of the financial and insurance sectors with an interest in tunnelling enterprises.

The provisional programme includes sessions on project development, soft ground tunnelling, tunnelling technology and materials, sprayed concrete linings, and hard ground tunnelling with risk management.

Registration is now open, with fees structured for residential and non-residential delegates. BTS members receive discounted rates, and sponsored places are available for students and apprentices. The programme also includes a social evening, a sports event, and a three-course dinner.

BTS is offering sponsored places for UK students (aged 18 and over) who are not in employment, as well as apprentices. Applicants must complete a form and submit a response to the question: “What do you hope to gain from the BTS Design & Construction Course?” in no more than 300 words.

Submissions will be assessed by BTS Committee members based on clarity, writing quality, and overall expectations. The top five candidates will receive full sponsorship, covering course fees, accommodation, and meals from Sunday, 29 June (pm) to Friday, 4 July (pm).

The deadline for applications is Friday, 28 March 2025 (midnight). Entries must be submitted in Word or PDF format to Mike King (mktunnelling@outlook.com).
