Tenders were expected to be called at the end of last year for the construction of a $1.3bn light rail network in Jerusalem. The five line project comprises 47km of track – including 6.5km in tunnel – and 72 stations. Completion is scheduled for 2002. The first line, from French Hill via Yaffo Street to Herzl Boulevard, will cost around $250m.
